What change has taken place in Krakow? Exhibition at the Museum of Photography

31 of March '22

The Museum of Photography in Krakow is hosting a unique exhibition presenting an overview of attitudes towards photography by Polish women and men artists. The exhibition is an attempt to answer the question of what artistic medium was photography.

The exhibition Here There Was a Change runs until April 24 this year. Monika Kozien is the curator of the exhibition. The exhibition can be seen at the new headquarters of the Museum of Photography on Rakowicka Street, which we wrote about on our portal(See here).

Here's where the change happened

What is the main theme of the exhibition? The beginning of the 2000s and the development of photography technology that marked this period. The massive emergence of digital photography opened up new opportunities for artists using this medium. "Digitals" directly began the introduction to new aesthetics, which today are evolving into further cultural visions.

The development of photography technology is even more strongly visible outside the realm of artistic activities. The ability to take a good quality photo thanks to smartphones is possible under any conditions. Our culture has assumed the primacy of the image - subjugating the social imagination. What can we see in the exhibition? The exhibition attempts to combine photography with other artistic media - the exhibition also includes scripts of digital sculpture.

The exhibition Here There Has Been a Change can be seen as a kind of kaleidoscope, showing artistic reactions and comments on key phenomena of modernity. And at the same time, it allows us to ask questions about the future: what will reality be like after post-reality? Is there anything further than post? The artists participating in the exhibition do not give exhaustive answers to these questions, they only share their hunches," says exhibition curator Monika Kozień.

MuFo's new policy

All of the works on display at the Here Has Been a Change exhibition belong to or will be purchased for the Museum of Photography in Krakow. In this way, the institution 's collection will grow, while creating a new and unique collection of contemporary photography in public collections.

The exhibition design was done by Zbigniew Prokop (ChromaSync). The coordinator of the exhibition is Joanna Gorlach. The exhibition runs from December 4, 2021 to April 24, 2022. We encourage you to visit the new MuFo headquarters.
